During November the bureau is home to my Blackpool postcard collection. Over the years I have accumulated many postcards depicting my home town, a holiday resort in the north of England. Many of my old postcards depict Blackpool's famous attractions along the promenade including Blackpool Tower, the Illuminations and three Victorian piers. Some of the places featured have since been demolished such as the Open Air Lido, a beautiful 1920s building which was inspired by the architecture of the Colosseum in Rome. Below are some of my favorite postcards and a collection of intriguing messages sent from holidaymakers to their friends and family back home.

Illuminated Car
Blackpool is famous for its electric tramway which up until recently was the last surviving first-generation tramway in the country. Once a year during the Illuminations the corporation bring out their brightly lit cars to dazzle the promenade during the end of the tourist season.
Boating Pool and Cabin Lift
The Cabin lift at North Shore was built in the 1930 and designed by John Charles Robinson who was a surveyor for the borough. It was used to move passengers between the upper promenade and the lower promenade walkway, artificial cliffs and the boating pool. The pool is now used as a karting race circuit and the lift remains closed. In 2010 the cabin was granted grade II listed building status which will hopefully keep it safe for future generations to enjoy.
