CAAC Coat Hangers
CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) airline was founded in 1949 and ceased operations in 1987. In the early days it operated domestic flights to cities in China and in 1962 began international services to other communist countries such as North Korea and Burma. These folding plastic coat hangers were probably used by someone travelling with CAAC during the 1960s.
SOUVENIR BUREAU
Welcome to the Souvenir Bureau. This month the bureau is home to a wide range of old and unusual souvenirs from a variety of holiday destinations and tourist attractions. They have been sourced during my travels, from charity shops, secondhand shops and flea markets.
I have a fondness for holiday mementoes since growing up in Blackpool, a famous seaside holiday resort in the north of England. I grew up surrounded by mass-produced merchandise such as mugs,
T-shirts, 'Kiss Me Quick' hats, Blackpool rock and kitsch seaside souvenirs.
Bureau contents include: handkerchiefs, paper fans, brooches, badges, snapshot albums, holiday scrap books, maps and travel guides.

British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) Souvenir, 1960s
This fan is from the days when airline travel was a luxury. It is made from paper and bamboo and is decorated with world scenes including the Tower of London. The slogan reads 'All over the world BOAC takes good care of you'.

Bell & Howell Camera Case
This Bell & Howell 16mm camera case came from Deptford Market some years ago. I love the Cyprus Airways baggage sticker indicating someone's trip abroad during the 1950s. The camera was absent but I did find this little instruction manual inside.
